Addon Management

Addons are optional features or services attached to a subscription. BillHive supports two types of addon applicability and allows adding addons to active subscriptions mid-term.

Addon Applicability

MandatoryAutomatically included when the subscription is created. Cannot be removed by the customer.
RecommendedShown as optional during subscription creation and can be toggled on/off. Can be added later.

Workflow

  1. Click Add Addon on the subscription details page.
  2. The modal shows available addons (excludes addons already on the subscription and filters by “Recommended” applicability).
  3. Toggle the addons you want to add.
  4. Optionally apply a coupon or offer code.
  5. Review the order estimate showing the addon’s price and dates.
  6. Confirm to place the order.

What Happens

  1. An order is created with event type ADD ADDON.
  2. The addon’s dates and price are set by the Billing Frequency setting. See How an addon added mid-term is priced.
  3. An invoice is generated for that amount.
  4. The addon appears on the subscription’s home tab with its pricing details.
  5. Subsequent billing cycles include the addon’s recurring charges.

How an addon added mid-term is priced

Billing FrequencyAddon runsCharged
Plan Based BillingFrom today to the end of the subscription’s current term, then renews with the planOnly for the part of the term left: the addon’s price for the whole term × the unused share of the term
Multi Frequency BillingOne full addon billing cycle, starting todayThe addon’s full price for one cycle

Under Plan Based Billing, “the addon’s price for the whole term” is its price converted to the plan’s billing period. For example, a monthly addon on a yearly plan is 12 × its monthly price. The unused share of the term is counted with your Proration Method, the same rule used for plan changes and cancellations.

Examples under Plan Based Billing, with Actual days. A ₹500/month addon is added Immediately:

SubscriptionAddedAddon runsCharged
Monthly plan, term 1 – 30 Jun1 Jun (first day)1 – 30 Jun₹500, the full month
Monthly plan, term 1 – 30 Jun16 Jun (15 of 30 days left)16 – 30 Jun₹500 × 15/30 = ₹250
Yearly plan, term 1 Jan – 31 Dec17 Nov (45 of 365 days left)17 Nov – 31 Dec₹6,000 × 45/365 = ₹739.73

At the next renewal, the addon is charged its normal price for the new term.

⚠️

If your Proration Method leaves nothing to prorate while days of the term remain, the addon is charged its full price for the term rather than nothing. This happens with Whole months when no complete month is left in the term, which is every mid-term addition on a monthly plan.

If the plan changes later in the term, the addon is credited for the unused part of the term on the same basis, so it is never credited more than it was charged. See Proration & Credits.

Addons During Plan Changes

When changing plans, the new plan may have a different set of available addons:

  • Mandatory addons on the new plan are automatically included.
  • Recommended addons are shown for optional selection.
  • Addons from the old plan that are not available on the new plan may be removed (with prorated credits).

Addons During Frequency Changes

When changing billing frequency with Add-on Alignment set to Plan Based, you have the option to include recommended addons at the new frequency’s pricing. This ensures addon prices align with the updated billing cycle.
